Coming Out 101 - Part III
The prospect of coming out can be rather daunting. The thoughts of rejection, beration and retaliation can run rampant in the run up to the talk.
If at all possible before delving into telling the critical people, you should attempt to have at least one ally in your pink triangle corner and the more the merrier.
Whether that be another gay person who has already experienced this or a best friend who will love you no matter the fallout. It's important to have a safe haven of some kind where judgments are withheld and only support is readily given.
I had wonderful friends who steered me through the coming out icebergs and never allowed me to feel less than because of who I am. One gay pal was so open and well adjusted that his steadfastness gave me confidence and led me to believe pretty early on that I was normal and it was okay to be gay. I daresay without him, you would not be reading these words.
And if you don't have anyone right now that you feel comfortable telling, we can be your love and support. We offer peer to peer insight and assistance via our chat and forum area.
