Kansas City to Gays: Ya'll Come Back Now

Some of you may recall an earlier story about my home town who gave the boot to some gay campers. The city said they were evicted from the grounds because of rule violations. The truth is we will never know for certain the why of it all.

Say what you will about the midwest, my little cow town Kansas City is making it right. The city will offer extensive diversity training to its staff which previously only included issues concerning race and gender. They are also taking measures to make it very clear that all campers are welcome so the homophobes will know up front and stay home or get over it.

Hidden in this press release is the really big news: Kansas City (Jackson County) will now protect gays against discrimination - something our federal government shamefully has yet to do.

The campers in this instance had no recourse because there are no laws currently on the books to protect them. Soon that will no longer be the case. So no more housing, employment or public accommodations discrimination.

Mooooooove over SF.
