Minnesota Gays Told to be Nice to the Republicans
I certainly understand why gays may want their presence felt at the republican convention. I get it.
But at the risk of pissing off a few of my comrades, I say to you: in the really big picture, there are much greater reasons to be pissed at this administration and nominee other than their collective stance on gay rights and gay marriage.
300,000 dead in Darfur. Children are thrown alive into the bonfires that were once their villages while their raped and ravaged mothers watch helplessly. This goes on day after day, month after month, and now year after year. You're more likely to find Karl Rove at a Michael Moore film premiere than a steady flow of food and water to the displacement camps where millions of human beings live thanks to the Sudanese government and the Janjaweed. The world watches and does next to nothing.
Who is speaking for them in Minnesota?
And then there's Iraq, Abu Ghraib, Blackwater, Guantanamo Bay and the civilian deaths that some estimate to be nearing 100,000.
Listing the faults of their platform is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Minimum wage, gasoline prices, home foreclosures, destruction of civil liberties in the name of protection, health care and gay rights.
So yes, while the concerns of our community are great perhaps just maybe if you think about it, there might be others with a more pressing, life saving need to be heard.
